December 2008

A Message from the Principal…

We are a few days away from winter break and as 2008 draws to a close, one naturally thinks of food, family and friends… memories of times in the past. As you’re taking the time to reflect, we wanted to share updates and new information for some families that are new to Pratt.

Budget

Enclosed with this letter is a copy of Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Minneapolis Public Schools 2009–2010 Budget Shortfall.

Breakfast Schedule Change

In November we made a change in our breakfast schedule. Those students who choose to eat breakfast go immediately to the lunchroom upon entering the building. Those who have eaten breakfast at home go directly to their lockers and then to their classroom, greeted by their teacher to begin their morning work. Students are adjusting and it is going very well. Thanks for your support in making this adjustment. We have many volunteers but can always use more during breakfast and lunch times. Call the Jakki Kydd-Fidelman or Noelle Barrowclough in the main office if you can help, or just stop in.

School Tours

Contact Jakki Kydd-Fidelman if you have a family member, neighbor or friend is interested in a school tour.

Absence for Family Activity

A student may be gone up to 5 days from school for a pre-approved family activity. To get pre-approval from the school, you must do the following: At least 10 days before leaving, request permission from the school for your child to be gone for a family activity. Before leaving, get your child’s homework and agree that your child will finish the homework. Make sure that your child will not be gone for important tests like the MCA, NALT, or MBST Agree in writing that your child will miss no more than 5 days of school. Before leaving, get written approval from the principal.

Family Activities Longer Than 5 days

If your family activity will last more than 5 days, you must ask permission from the principal in writing before you leave. If the principal gives permission to be gone longer than 5 days, your child will be expected to turn in a school report and/or a presentation to their teacher(s).

Complete information can be found here: http://prattschool.org/news.php?id=65

As the year ends, take time to rest, relax, and reflect. Thanks for sharing your children with us the first half of the school year and have a relaxing winter break. The first day of school after winter break is Monday, January 5.
